Japanese denim is processed on a traditional spool loom. In contrast to automated high-speed weaving looms, a spool loom has adjustable gears, which the weaver can change, reducing the speed and allowing the weft threads to open widely. This method is called 'spool weaving' and is typical of Japan. This 'analogical' method gives the fabric a natural irregularity and a unique weave, different from the flat weave produced by a high-speed loom.
