Where did the Regimental stripe originate?

The origins of the Regimental stripe, typical of ties and later transferred to fabrics for jackets and waistcoats with an elegant look, date back to 1845 at the Blenheim Hotel on Bond Street in London. During the luncheon following the annual cricket match between the teams from Harrow School and Eton, four students founded a club dedicated to promoting the spirit of amateur cricket. This club, named "The Gypsies," soon became one of the most influential teams of the 19th century. The colors of their uniforms were black, red, and gold.

These colors were soon adopted for blazers and ribbons that wrapped around the "boaters" worn by club members. This became the first example of "School Ties," the school neckties that inspired future Regimental ties.

The success was immediate: soon, in the Victorian middle class, every civil association, sports club, or gentlemen's circle adopted their own tie with the distinctive colors of the society.

The Regimental tie was soon adopted into the uniform of the British Army, as a response to discontent caused by a reform that seemed to threaten the deep-rooted traditions of military uniforms. From that moment, the use of Regimental ties spread quickly, becoming a true symbol of belonging. As a member of the Royal Family once pointed out, "its presence, whether kept in a drawer or simply stored in memory, should provide comfort and determination in moments of difficulty."

Over time, the Regimental pattern evolved into a true emblem of style, no longer limited to ties but also extended to fabrics used for jackets, waistcoats, and men's suits. The stripes, a distinctive symbol of this aesthetic, have become a must for those seeking refined elegance, imbued with a retro and timeless charm.
